Leeds City Council has circulated its Annual Programme of Works for Highways and Transportation for 2026 and 2027.
The programme covers a large number of capital projects across the city, including highway maintenance, bridge works, road safety schemes, flood alleviation, public transport improvements, walking and cycling schemes, and major transport projects.
For Adel and Wharfedale residents, one of the most relevant schemes is the completion of works at Lawnswood Roundabout, which is expected in September 2026. The Council describes this as an important road safety scheme
One point residents may find useful is that the Council is making the programme available through an online map, link below. This allows people to look at planned schemes by area and click on individual projects for more information.
The wider programme also sets out the scale of highways maintenance funding for the year. Across highway maintenance and bridges, the total programme listed for 2026 and 2027 is £55.8 million. This includes Council funding, regional transport funding, and additional local highways maintenance funding.
The programme also sits alongside West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Vision Zero ambition, which aims for no one to be killed or seriously injured on roads in Leeds by 2040. That includes work on safer routes to school, pedestrian crossings, local traffic issues and targeted safety improvements.
