Residents may recall the proposal to convert part of Holt Lane, from the Cookridge end into a Greenway. This is the section from the Cookridge Lane to Holt Park Road. The section from the Adel end to Holt Park Rd will remain open to traffic to allow access to homes. The plans will prevent vehicular traffic through the area of the Greenway, while foot, cycle and horse (but not with carts) traffic will be permitted. The road will become significantly quieter and safer along its entire length from Holt Road because the current route will no longer be used as a cut through between Adel and Cookridge.

The Greenway will become much safer for users, and with funding provided by ward councillors, Highways will also improve the footway link between Cookridge Lane to where the footpath from the Holtdale estate emerges opposite the golf club service access. The decision to convert the road to a Greenway followed a consultation exercise which, although largely in favour of the proposal, attracted a number of material objections to the project which had to addressed by senior officers one by one.
It has taken some time to reach this stage, but it looks finally as if the project is nearing delivery. The work is due to start in September/October this year, although this is, as usual subject to change. We will update you when we have more concrete information on dates.
Thanks, Cllr Billy Flynn.
