Bramhope No2 & Arthington No5 – Bridleway OPEN!

As residents in Bramhope and probably from all over the ward will be aware the bridleway between Creskeld Drive and Creskeld Lane, has been closed since June 2025.

This was due to an issue where the Bramhope No2 and Arthington No5 foot paths meet. Specifically a collapse of the culvert over the small beck that runs under the path and into Station Wood. The collapse was deemed to make the path unsafe for users, and no temporary repair could be made safely at the time.

The issue was further complicated by the fact that the culvert at that point also crosses over the main Bramhope sewer on it sway down to the water treatment works down on Warren lane in Arthington. The sewer pipe is visible in the photograph above taken during the repair works.

Talks between LCC and YW to arrange the repairs, responsibility, and budget took the main part of the past two years. However we are now delighted to say that the bridleway has been reopened in a state which is safe for all traffic allowed on a bridleway!

The repair is quite substantial, and in fact is a complete replacement of the existing Victorian culvert with a modern design that should last at least 100 years.

The new culvert is more than capable of carrying the large amount of run off the beck can take when we have very wet winter days.

So time to get rambling around the Creskelds again.
