Update from LCC Highways 1300 Friday 9th October:
Arthington Lane is now OPEN with temporary traffic lights in place.
Information from Yorkshire Water 0900 Friday 9th October:
Please be advised that the A659 (Arthington Lane – see below map) is closed at its junction with The Tower Drive. So there is no access along the A659 through Pool at the moment.

There is an emergency diversion in place via the A658 Main Street /Pool Bridge/Weeton/Huby Pannal and along A61 Harrogate road towards Harewood.

10 “Road Closed” signs have been placed along the A659 from Pool to the junction with Harewood Bank to encourage traffic to use the diversion which is shown below. There are also a further 6 signs on the Pool side of the closure.
Yesterday, Yorkshire Water attended site to investigate and repair a suspected leak on a communication pipe. In order to safely undertake the work, it was necessary to excavate within the carriageway and implement a road closure. However, during the investigation it became clear that the service pipe initially identified was not the source of the problem. Further investigations have therefore been required to establish the precise location of the leak. Current indications suggest it may be located outside the highway boundary, although this has not yet been confirmed.
We recognise the significant disruption the closure has caused for local residents, schools and road users. Given the uncertainty around the exact source of the leak, we have been working with Leeds City Council Highways to agree the most appropriate next steps. As a result, arrangements are being made today to backfill the excavation and carry out a temporary reinstatement so that the road can be reopened as soon as possible.
Once the road has been reopened, we will continue to work with Leeds City Council to identify an appropriate opportunity to undertake any further investigations and return to complete the permanent repair and reinstatement works, at a time that causes the minimum disruption possible.
We will provide further updates as we receive them. You can view the road closure information here https://one.network/?GB152934012
