Apprenticeships in Leeds City Council are a great way of providing skill development opportunities and qualifications to staff in both entry level roles and to develop existing employees at all levels in the organisation. Following the success of the Council’s Apprenticeship Awards over the last ten years, planning for the 2027 Awards is now underway.
These awards are an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contribution and achievements of apprentices in the Council at all levels (from entry level 2 up to degree or postgraduate Level 6 or 7) and with the additional challenges the Council continues to face, it is more important than ever to acknowledge the commitment of our apprentices.
The nomination window is now open until 18 December 2026, and the awards themselves will be announced over the course of National Apprenticeship Week (8 to 14 February 2027). The focus of National Apprenticeship Week 2027 is to highlight the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy so our in-house Apprenticeship Awards are an opportunity to do just that.
This year there are 8 nomination categories:
Learner of the year
Selected in conjunction with a training provider – an apprentice who has demonstrated commitment to their own personal development and progression through learning.
Development award
For an apprentice who has made significant progress in their development from the start to the end of their apprenticeship.
Embracing the values award
An apprentice who demonstrates the council values and shows how they meet these day to day.
Going the extra mile award
An apprentice who regularly goes above and beyond, showing an outstanding contribution to their service or their community.
Personal achievement award – an apprentice who has overcome personal challenges (either in work or at home) and has shown an excellent commitment to succeeding and achieving goals against the odds.
Progression award
To recognize existing staff who undertake an apprenticeship and progress their career with the Council.
Support award
We couldn’t do apprenticeships without the support of managers and colleagues of the apprentice – an award voted for by apprentices to celebrate inspirational support.
Training provider award
Training Providers are at the heart of an apprentice’s development – tell us what your provider has done to support you!
